Project
Type: JHSV Loadout/Launch
Location: Mobile,
AL
Weight: 3200
Tons
Job
Details:
The Berard Team was
proud to once again take a pinnacle role in transporting
the Navy’s newest addition to its fleet,
the “Coronado”, a 418’L x 107’W
Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) built with pride by
Austal in Mobile, Alabama. In a two-step process
using 104 axle lines of self propelled modular
transporters, the Berard Team rolled the 2800
ton LCS from the final assembly bay to a waiting
deck barge. The Coronado was then barged down
river for transloading from deck barge to drydock
for launching. The entire transport process was
accomplished in only two days and was a major
improvement in safety and efficiency. The new
roll-out method has shaved hours off the transfer
process, and serves as a capstone in Austal’s
effort to reduce cost and time required in future
LCS deliveries. |

Type: JHSV Loadout/Launch
Location: Mobile,
AL
Weight: 3200
Tons
Job
Details:
The Berard Team was
recently commissioned to loadout this 2,200 ton
Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) in Mobile, Alabama.
The all aluminum vessel named Spearhead, will
soon be serving in our US Navy fleet and protecting
our great country. The vessel had to be jacked
to a higher level to clear the drydocks wing walls.
Moving day brought a tight fit when the JHSV started
it’s journey onto the drydock with mere
1/8” to spare on each side. Thanks to the
maneuverability of the SPMT’s and the skilled
team members, the JHSV made it’s way to
it’s final position on the drydock and readied
for launch. The Berard Team would like to thank
all involved in making this project a safe one
and another great milestone for our company. |

Type: Mega Yacht Loadout/Launch
Location: Gulfport,
MS
Weight: 1650
Tons
Job
Details:
When it’s heavy,
oversized and really expensive, shipyards know
they can put their trust in Berard. This job was
no different from the several jobs previously
performed by the Berard Team at this location
except that this time the mega yacht was one of
the largest built to date. The yacht was transported
from the companies massive fabrication shop onto
a Synchro Lift launch system. The vessel was so
long that it took up nearly all of the launch
area. Once in position, the SPMT’s were
removed and the vessels was ready for it’s
first taste of water. |

Type: FMC Loadout/Launch
Location: Pascagoula,
MS
Weight: 902
Tons
Job
Details:
This 208’ long
FMC (Fast Missile Craft) needed to get to the
launch site and the Berard Team had the skill
set and the equipment to handle it! It was another
tight one with the load having to maneuver around
several buildings and other objects in the fabrication
yard and the Berard Team performed the job with
ease using 52 axlelines of SLE SPMT’s. Once
the tight maneuvering was taken care of, the ship
was transported to the client’s launch way
and set down into position for launching. Another
ship, another successful job completed by the
Berard Team! |

Project
Type: Liftboat Loadout/Launch
Location: Lafitte,
LA
Weight: 3200
Tons
Job
Details:
Feast your eyes on
the largest pipe leg liftboat in the world. Once
completed, the 320 class vessel will feature (2)
300 ton cranes mounted on the front legs as well
as a heli deck at the stern. Measuring 200’
x 133’, the 3000 ton vessel was transported
on 92 axle lines of spmt’s (32 ESE, 60 SLE)
from it’s fabrication area to the bulkhead
for loadout. The move consisted of poor ground
conditions and fitting the load between the water’s
edge and the clients shop with a mere 10”
of clearance. Once in position at the bulkhead,
the vessel was then loaded onto a 260’ x
72’ deckbarge where the vessel lowered it’s
legs and lifted itself up and off of the transporters.
The deck barge was removed and the vessel lowered
itself to the water. |

Project
Type: Workboat Move
Location: Lockport,
LA
Weight: 1655
Tons
Job
Details:
Using 48 lines of
PST-SLE’s, together with 12 lines of PST-ESE’s
(Mega PST’s), the 1655 ton, 242’ long,
and 54’ wide vessel was transported to the
clients launch beam system for launching. The
job began with the vessel being jacked up with
SPMT’s until the desired launch beam height
was met (approx. 18” of lift) and then utilizing
20 inches of stroke of the SPMT’s to get
to the final height required. The vessel was moved
out of the shop and then rotated 90 degrees within
super tight conditions and very poor ground conditions.
One of the cost saving aspects of the job was
setting the SPMT’s in a transverse configuration.
Setting the SPMT’s in this manner saved
both time and money by not having to re-block
the hull again to set the SPMT’s up for
the launch ways.

Type: Liftboat Move
Location: Bayou LaBatre,
AL
Weight: 1300
Tons
Job
Details:
These two 1300 ton
liftboats were loaded out in only two days using
32 lines of Mega PST’s and will be featured
on the Discovery Channel in the fall. The boat
was a slightly smaller one than normal and had
a shorter distance between the pads, which lead
to the Mega PST’s being configured perpendicular
to the boat instead of the normal parallel positioning.
Once ready, it was loaded onto the barge, then
the boat lowered its legs to begin lifting itself
off of the Mega PST’s and barge. The barge
was then removed from underneath and the liftboat
lowered itself to it first taste of water. The
second liftboat was loaded and ready to loadout
the very next morning. Another successful loadout
for Berard! |

Type: Power Module
Move
Location: Harvey,
LA & Mobile, AL
Weight: 550
Tons
Job
Details:
Moved in the same
week as the liftboats in Alabama, this 1600 ton
power module built in Harvey, LA., was loaded
out onto a barge then transported to Mobile, AL
to be joined with the rest of a waiting 600+ foot
long tanker ship. The final positioning of the
module to the ship was critical, and this is where
the versatility of the spmt’s and a skilled
operator (Brady Judice) really shined through.
Just another day at the shipyard for the Berard
Team! |

Type: Yacht Move
Location: Gulfport,
MS
Weight: 550
Tons
Job
Details:
Before this mega yacht
named Unbridled could hit the open seas, it had
to be moved. Weighing in at 550 tons, 190’
long and 34’ wide, the vessel was moved
onto the yard’s drydock system using 40
axlelines of SPMT's. Berard worked together with
the client to make sure this move was problem
free and that’s exactly the way it was,
a nice smooth ride into position where it was
ready to hit the water the very next day. Soon,
this beautiful yacht will be hitting the world’s
oceans and it’s nice to know that Berard
had a hand in it. Another successful job done
right by Berard! |

Type: Liftboat Launch
Location: Bayou LaBatre,
Al
Weight: 1800
Tons
Job
Details:
Bayou La Batre, Alabama.
While there was no Forrest Gump or a Bubba Gump
Shrimp Company to be found, there were two 1800
ton liftboats to be launched. Berard got the call
and after months of planning, it was time to execute
the move to get these two vessels wet.
The liftboats
had to be loaded out onto a barge that was narrow
enough to accommodate the leg pads, which were
lowered as the vessel progressed onto the barge.
The barge was then moved away from the bulkhead
to lower the rear leg pad and lift itself from
the transporters and barge. The barge was moved
from underneath and the liftboat then lowered
itself to it’s first taste of water. |

Type: Drydock Loadout
Location: Sulphur,
LA
Weight: 2280
Tons
Job
Details:
Weighing in at 2280
tones, Berard made this move with ease using 80
axlelines of spmt's to loadout this massive drydock
in Sulphur. The drydock was loaded onto a larger
drydock. The drydock that recieved the load was
so long that the ship channel had to be closed
by the Coast Guard to complete the loadout. Once
the loadout began, it took only 37 minutes for
the loadout to complete, causing minimal
impact on ship traffic. |
