Project
Type: Offshore Deck
Location: Gibson, LA
Weight: 2600 Tons
Job Details:
Loading and offloading offshore platforms
is just about an everyday occurrance at Berard. This one however was just
a little different. During one of the recent hurricanes this deck weighing
2600 tons developed a “minor” fire.
Once removed from it’s foundation offshore and transported to the clients
facility in Gibson Louisiana, the Berard Team took action to make this final
part of the move a safe and successful one. Using ninety-six lines
of SLES and ESEs transporters powered by eight power pack units, the deck
was offloaded from a 300' x 100' x 20' deck barge to the clients facility.

Project
Type: Offshore Living
Quarters
Location: Abbeville, LA
Weight: 650 Tons
Job Details:
This was definitely not your average, ordinary
move, it was a challenge that Berard seems to love to take on. The Manson project
was a unique loadout that proved once again why Berard is at the top of the
list when it comes to mega transport. The job consisted of loading out this
110’ x
40’ 650 ton living quarters
onto a barge at the fabricators yard in Abbeville, LA, then towed to Amelia,
LA.
Here’s where it gets interesting. The derrick barge the living quarters
was to go on was too deep to ballast down at the builders facility or owners
facility, so the game plan consisted of utilizing a drydock to lift the barge
and living quarters together to raise the load to the same deck height of
the derrick barge so it could be trans-loaded using 22 lines of PST-ESE transporters.
Once on the derrick barge, the load then was towed to Houma, LA, and using
eight 135 ton climbing jacks controlled by a unified jacking system, the
load was lowered onto the deck of the barge, finalizing another successful
job. |

Type: Offshore Deck
Location: Amelia,
LA
Weight: 450 Tons
Job Details:
In our business, moving an offshore deck is an
everyday occurrence. Sure, we’ve moved decks much larger and heavier but what makes
this one so special is that it had to be raised an additional 12’. The
deck was first transported in the yard and then lifted to the 12’ needed
for the additional legs. The now higher deck was then loaded out onto a waiting
barge for delivery in the Gulf of Mexico. |

Type: Offshore Deck
Location: Amelia,
LA
Weight: 350 Tons
Job Details:
Using 24 lines of ESEs, 4 ppus, numerous stands,
blocks and shimming material to transport this 350 ton 4 pile deck was the
task at hand. The deck was moved out of shop to stab the main deck onto the
existing cellar deck. This was done with the clients overhead cranes together
with a 275 ton crawler crane. The SPMTs manuvervability was crucial to the
aligning of the deck as it had to be within mere millimeters. The deck was
then elevated to a new height of 8’-3” and transported out of the shop and into the
laydown yard to allow the deck to sit on taller legs due to changes in offshore
height regulations. The ESEs stroke of 27” allowed the Berard Team
to do this in a timely and safe
manner. The project was accomplished in only 1.5
days and within budget. |
